The Bagel Shoppe
Beacon used to have its very own Bagel place (The Beacon Bagel). It kind of sucked. (Sorry to the owners). But it was still really sad when it closed because what kind of Northeastern town doesn’t have a place to get bagels on weekend mornings?
That’s why it was SO exciting when the Bagel Shopped opened in Beacon in 2021–a second outpost of their first location in Fishkill, NY nearby. The Bagel Shoppe IS a bagel shoppe. The bagels are fluffy and good. They’re not NEW YORK CITY bagels, but they’re still worth trying if you’re on the hunt for a classic breakfast/brunch/lunch.
One bonus of the Bagel Shoppe is that they are also the closest thing to a Jewish deli that we have in town. They have specialty foods for ALL the holidays INCLUDING the Jewish ones–so you can find things like Challah and Rugelach and Matzo Ball soup sometimes (and other rotating specialties), and they have a whole menu of prepared foods and sandwiches and other stuff–though, it’s not their specialty, and if I had to give recommendations, I’d say stick to the bagels and schmears and bagel sandwiches.
One fun thing here is that they make rainbow bagels, which are just plain bagels but beautiful, and those bagels are a great way to celebrate pride or just make a little kid (or a grown up kid) really happy. Hot tip - they have GREAT strawberry cream cheese, and they’re not stingy with it when you order it.
(also, one of my favorite comfort foods in town is their plain bagel toasted with butter–again, not stingy with the multiple, multiple smears of butter)
There’s some seating inside, but it’s not the most AMBIENT place. Take it to go and eat it on a bench nearby at the creek if you can. Or, grab a quick bite there if you’re in a hurry.
To Beaconcise: Classic Bagel shop and semi-authentic Jewish deli, great for brunch or to-go food.
