About Me
Hey!
My name is Beck, and I launched Eating Beacon on Instagram in 2017 in order to highlight the food, restaurants & events of the Beacon, NY and Mid-Hudson Valley area. Over the past 7 years the platform has grown into an online community where local foodies can connect and share useful information about local dining—as well as a place I can showcase standout local business owners, chefs, and restauranteurs in our community.
As a Southern, Jewish, Taurus, self-proclaimed-foodie, I hold a strong belief that food is about much more than sustenance, or pleasure. While of course eating can be fun, food is also often a means of connection. Sitting down for a meal gives people a chance to bond and create shared memories.
Food is also often a doorway into an unfamiliar culture, and eating a dish from a foreign cuisine can immediately transport you worlds away from where you’re seated—without ever having to leave your own town (or couch).
I believe that Eating Beacon is important because the food and restaurants in Beacon strengthen our community and tie Beaconites together. We can empathize with our neighbors better when we understand their culture and traditions. Our restaurants also serve as gathering spaces where locals and visitors alike can relax and talk over delicious meals—putting aside differences that often make it difficult for us to sit side by side at the same tables.
While building Eating Beacon, I have worked as a social media and content marketer and have had the opportunity to work with many leading brands in the food & beverage space. I remain committed to using my platform as a means of championing the incredible small businesses, women-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, and LGBTQIA+ owned businesses that call the Hudson Valley home, and I look forward to having the chance to continue eating around Beacon, Dutchess County, the Hudson Valley, Upstate, and beyond.
I hope you’ll join me!
